The 12th night of Christmas of the Orthodox calendar has been renowned since ancient Russian times for fortunetelling. And even though it is considered a sin by the Church, this tradition is still alive and well in Russian villages. Fortunetelling is usually done on the last day of Svyatki, as the fortnight after the Orthodox Christmas is called.
