The film stars veteran TV and feature film actor Dennis Weaver, who warns a group of kids about the dangers of using matches and playing with fire. At 8:19, the film apparently shows the actual orphaned bear cub that was named Smokey by his Forest Service rescuers (see explanation below). At 8:20 the bear is shown at the National Zoo in Washington, D. C. At 9:50 the kids in the film show how to smother fires, crush matches, and warn again about the dangers of playing with matches. Smokey the Bear is the U. S. Forest Services iconic representative for wildfire prevention.
