Beginners Yoga Moving on from Dog Head Down Pose. If you have been doing yoga for a little while, you will know the importance of Adho Mukha Svanasana, Sometimes known as Dog Head Down, or Dog Pose, this is a safe and manageable introduction to inversions (upside down poses) in yoga. It helps improve shoulder, ankle and wrist strength and mobility, abdominal and leg strength and it opens the hamstrings and calf muscles.
