Nikolai Golovanov Lamento Beznosikov, Dubov ( Moscow, 2019)
Written on the death of a friend, Golovanov s Lamento is one of the more unusual works in the repertoire: the piece is basically an adaptation of Golovanov s own earlier sacred choir the genre he is perhaps best known for as a composer. It also happens to be Golovanov s own swan song: following its completion in 1945, the great conductor would still stay active as the music director of the Bolshoi but would not produce any more music until his death in 1953. Here, Lamento is played at Golovanov s memorial flat by another musician who has strong ties with the Bolshoi: Arseny Beznosikov, one of the theatre s principal cellos. Nikolai Golovanov Lamento op. 46 No. 1 (194445) Arseny Beznosikov (cello), Mikhail Dubov (piano) Moscow, Nikolai Golovanov Memorial Flat, 24 January 2019 Programme Notes: mikhail
