Madagascar Aka Madagascar Street Scenes (1942)
Unused, unissued material paperwork dates it as 1940. Title reads African Mirror No. 150, Madagascar. Intertitle following reads A Brief Description of a Little Known Island That is World Headline New Today sic. On a basic map of the island of Madagascar we see the port of Diego Suarez, occupied at this time by British Forces. At the capital city of Antananarivo, Tananarive we see several shots of the countryside around the city and street scenes; the market place; ducklings and pigs (tied in pairs at the trotter) for sale. A narrow gauge steam train passes through on its way to the east coast. Local men carry westerners on sedan chairs along roads and across a river. Ox are herded over mountains. We see several tribes of the island; they are seen panning for gold, threshing corn and harvesting rice; oxen are seen swimming across a river. Other locals are seen speeding down rivers in canoes.
