October 9, 2013Year of Teacher Education (, YTEUBC) Launch at the Faculty of Education, The University of British Columbia Dr. Avis Glaze and Dean Blye Frank began the evening with A Dialogue about Teacher Education: What Makes a Difference Their dialogue focused on three broad areas that they consider critically important to teacher education: Professionalism, Competencies, and Characteristics. Teacher candidates, as well as teachers, are often well prepared in issues of pedagogy and curriculum, but often less so in the competencies and the soft skills necessary to be a successful professional in the diverse educational communities in which they find themselves working.
