ZEISS Breaking new Ground for the Microchips of Tomorrow
Increasingly smaller, higherperforming microchips that are more cost effective and energy efficient would be unthinkable without the ZEISS Semiconductor Manufacturing Technology (SMT) segment. Photolithography is the key to miniaturizing the chip structures. During this process, optic imaging transfers the chip structures from a photomask onto a wafer. SMT delivers the optical components and modules for illumination that are then integrated in the wafer scanner from our strategic partner, ASML. SMT also provides photomasks and process control solutions for optimizing important steps in microchip manufacturing. Innovative lithography with extra ultraviolet (EUV) light enables the production of chip structures 20 nanometers wide, making them 4, 000 times thinner than a strand of human hair. With its EUV optics, SMT is helping drive Moore s Law and is setting the pace for digitalization.
