New Deputy Secretary General Van Friedenberg sits beside him. Ismay makes speech. He says the first meeting of the new North Atlantic Council was held that morning. Their first task was to consider the question of a successor to General Eisenhower. He talks of their hearts being filled with gratitude and pride for what Eisenhower has achieved since he was appointed Supreme Commander of Allied Forces in Europe.
