Cadenza by Ferdinand Laub (18321875), published in 1859. Ferdinand Laub is probably most remembered today for his friendship and collegiality with Tchaikovsky, who supposedly named him the best violinist of our era, and wrote three string quartets all inspired by Laubs brilliant musicianship. Laub also succeeded Joachim as concertmaster in Weimar and taught at the music school there. His cadenza for Beethovens Violin Concerto seeps with virtuosity and represents the most popular violin techniques of the era, organically using Beethovens themes to build up excitement from beginning to end.
