Fire in the Hole Dakota Fire Hole Pottery Kiln (episode 26)
Im very close to beginning construction of the new Primitive adobe hut but first I need to collect some more materials and fire up some clay pottery. Ill be using some pottery pieces during the building process. I need a kiln to fire the pottery and the Dakota fire hole is a great way to achieve that goal. The Dakota fire hole (or pit) is basically a hole dug in the ground with a smaller hole attached to it through an underground tunnel. The flow of air through the tunnel feeds the fire and produces more heat than a ground level campfire. The fire in a Dakota fire hole burns within the hole thus making the flames less visible from the ground and it also produces less smoke.
