Saverio Mercadante: Concerto for Flute in E Minor ( Brook Ellen Ferguson, ROCO)
ROCO s Season 12 In Concert series came to a close with Double Trouble led by conductor Steven Jarvi, with Scott St. John returning as concertmaster. Italian composer Saverio Mercadante wrote his 2nd Flute Concerto in 1814, when he was just 19. Having studied the flute himself (among many instruments), the concerto is filled with virtuosic writing, showcasing the talents of ROCO principal flutist Brook Ellen Ferguson. Learn more about Brook at her ROCO Artist Page: Rounding out the program, the orchestra also premiered another newly commissioned work on this concert, Alexander Millers ROCOmoji, which explores emotion through sound and also performed Schoenberg s Verklarte Nacht, and Holst s Brook Green Suite. Recorded April 1, 2017, at The Church of St. John the Divine, Houston, TX.
