MTB Myth Busting: can you actually scoop your pedals
, JeffKendallWeed, FlatPedals, MTBMythBusting When riding flat pedals on a mountain bike, many folks claim to be scooping the bike up with their feet when bunnyhopping. Rather than scooping, the term unweighting makes sense to me, as my feet are NOT lifting the bike at all. The term scooping made no sense to me, as it always seemed impossible to actually scoop the bike via a flat pedal. Charged with the challenge of putting this terminology to rest, I wanted to try building some flat pedals with a very low coefficient of friction as well as with a shape that fully prevented any sort of actual scoop of the bicycle. Ive always simply unweighted my feet by pulling them up towards my body the skill of this is in pulling them up at the right speed, so that they dont come up faster than the pedals, but fast enough that they dont limit the bikes upwards momentum same as your rear foot when you ollie on a skateboard.
