Crackdown on private tutoring leaves industry, students and parents drawing a blank

On July 24, 2021, Chinas State Council announced a new set of guidelines meant to ease the burden of young students as they go through mandatory education which extends to senior secondary school. The central governments top administrative body ordered local governments to stop approving new tutoring companies, and force existing companies to become nonprofit organisations. The new guidelines also eliminate classes on weekends and holidays as well as ban tutoring companies from receiving foreign investment.
