Diplomacy Beyond: Dr. Hannes Swoboda

On 22 September 2021 the Diplomacy Beyond talk series hosted Dr. Hannes Swoboda who provided an enlightening presentation on the aspects of Western cultural tolerance and influence, elaborating on the concepts of religion, history, globalisation, and human right, especially concerning the European Union and its role in resolving conflict and promoting peace on the global scene. Prior to serving in the European Parliament from 1996 to 2014, Dr. Swoboda was engaged in federal and municipal politics. In his role in Parliament, he occupied a double function as both a representative of the Social Democratic Party of Austria and the leader of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats. Currently, Dr. Swoboda acts as President of the International Institute for Peace, a nongovernmental Viennabased organization with the mandate of promoting peace and nonviolent conflict resolution across the world.
