Don Philippe And Partner (1940)
Titles read: Now Pathetone Presents DON PHILIPPE PARTNER in MODES WHILE YOU WAIT . London, probably Pathe Studio. A woman in a floral dress walks onto the set and starts to sing After The Ball in soprano voice. Don Philippe stops her and says You can t sing oldfashioned songs wrapped up in wallpaper. She replies she can sing in anything, so he unzips her dress and takes it off (saucy ), leaving her in some rather garish camiknickers she laughs and carries on singing. He then takes some fabric and drapes it around her, pinning it in place to create a Victorianstyle dress with a bustle, and puts a cape and hat on her. Philippe puts on a bowler hat and false whiskers and they dance a polka. We then see Philippe winding some striped material around the woman, tucking it in over the shoulders and creating a dress without a single pin. He adds a small hat and bag to the outfit and the pair walk off, hand in hand. It takes him a little longer to drape and pin a bridal gown on the woman
