In 1985, MaraLago was purchased byDonald Trumpat a price of around 10 million. His wife at the time, Ivana Trump, was charged with running the property. Trump retained MaraLago through both his divorces. His family maintains private quarters in a separate, closedoff area of the house and grounds. Trump has frequently visited there asPresident of the United States, referring to it as theWinter White Houseand his Southern White House. MaraLago has been used to host meetings for President Trump and international leaders, including Japanese prime ministerShinzō Abeand Chinese presidentXi Jinping. In September 2019, MaraLago became the primary residence for Donald and Melania Trump, who previously held primary residence in New York City.
