The film tells the story of Jimmy, a soldier fighting in Normandy in World War 2, as he writes a letter home to his wife and son. His experiences and dangers of feirce combat alongside decent men help him open up to his family about the abuse he went through at the hands of his father, and the strangeness of the fact that Jimmy had to go to war to be able to find some semblence of peace.
