Making a Drippy Slip Mug from start to finish
Making a medium mug, and using multicoloured slip (liquid clay) to create a flowing surface design. The colours used here are the light sandy colour of the clay, and layered blues to create a beach effect, but this will work with other colours of slip and glaze The slip is made from the clay trimmings, watered down and passed through a sieve to create a thick smooth liquid. This is then coloured and sucked into a syringe in layers, so creates a marbled coloured banding when it s applied to the surface of the mug. The mug is then tapped on the wheel to get the thick slip to flow down in waves. The slip is also used to stick the handle in place.
