Battle atThe Berrics first began in 2008 after Steve Berra convinced Mike Mo Capaldi and Eric Koston to play a friendly battle to help raise the spirits of a 10year old boy named Johnny Romano, an avid skater who was in thehospital battling acute lymphoblastic leukemia andsubsequently passed away on September 23rd 2008. Both Steve Berra and Eric Koston are forever indebted to Johnny, as is the entireskateboarding community, for being the inspiration behind what has become one of the most beloved skateboarding traditions, Battle atThe Berrics.
