King Charles III officially proclaimed King at ceremony in Gibraltar
Gibraltar has now officially recognised King Charles as its new monarch and head of state, with the Governor Sir David Steel making the public proclamation at The Convent at midday on Sunday. After Sir David read the text of the proclamation (below), there was a 21gun salute fired from Devils Gap Battery in the Upper Rock nature reserve, led by Gibraltarian Major Charles Bonfante. Outside the Governors official residence, the Royal Gibraltar Regiment (RG) band then played God Save the King. As onlookers filled the pavements to take in the atmosphere on this historic occasion, the Governor then led a three cheers for His Majesty the King which reverberated around Convent Place. The band of the Royal Gibraltar Regiment played God Save The King. The ceremony was presided over by the Governor, with Chief Minister Fabian Picardo and other dignitaries joining him on The Convent s balcony.
