Rated as unfit for the military in World War II, Bill Morgan (Fred MacMurray) desperately wants to enlist in part to impress beautiful Lucilla Powell (June Haver). When Bill finds an ancient lamp, he rubs it and a jinni (Gene Sheldon) emerges. While the magical entity grants Bill s wish of serving in the Army, it gets the era wrong, and the aspiring soldier ends up on a timehopping adventure, skipping from the Revolutionary War to the discovery of America and other points in U. S. history.
