NTU Singapore scientists develop fabric that can stiffen on demand
NTU Singapore and Caltech scientists have developed a new type of chain mail fabric that is flexible like cloth but can stiffen on demand. This is similar to Batman s cape, which is generally flexible but can become rigid when the caped crusader needs it as a glider. This new invention paves the way for nextgeneration smart fabrics. Some potential uses include: protective exoskeletons for highimpact sports, medical support for the elderly or bulletproof vests.
