NGOs, private universities, media outlets left without legal status in Nacaragua, DW News
The United Nations has described the latest forced closure of some one and a half thousand NGOs in Nicaragua as deeply alarming. This latest move by Nicaraguan authorities will see mainly religious associations shut and it brings the total number of banned civil society organisations to more than five thousand. Their closure is part of a major crackdown by President Daniel Ortega on opponents. It leaves NGOs, media outlets and private universities without legal status.
