Du Fu Reclaimed

On March 6th 2020 BBC 4 aired the documentary Du Fu: Chinas Greatest Poet. The programme was presented by Michael Wood and Du Fus poems were read by Sir Ian Mckellen completely erasing British East Asians from their own culture and an opportunity to be platformed. The choice of Sir Ian Mckellen to read Du Fus poems is particularly baffling. We have the utmost respect for Sir Ian, but we have to ask why was no actor (or actors) of East Asian descent chosen to do this We appreciate of course Sir Ians
