Laura Smith : My Bonny

This is an adaptation of the traditional song, Bring Back My Bonny To Me, attributed to H. J. Fuller. I had always known the chorus and one day while singing it to myself the rest of the words came. The melody is so beautiful, the song sings itself for Laura Smith I first heard Canadian singersongwriter Laura Smith while driving to down Commercial Drive in Vancouver on my way to New Westminster one morning. She was a guest on Morningside, Peter Gzowski s CBC radio show. Suddenly this song started and I had to pull over to the side of the road to listen. Then I waited for Peter to say the singer s name. Later that day I found Laura s record, B tween The Earth And My Soul (1994). It s a good album, but, to be honest, the beauty of this particular song tends to keep me from learning the rest of the album as well as I ought to. Laura s website :
