Slovakia s Filip Polc took top honors in the Red Bull Desafio no Morro, an unprecedented mountain bike downhill competition inside a favela (slum) in Rio de Janeiro. Polc s best time of down the 760 meters of the favela s alleys and staircases was enough to edge Brazilian Markolf Berchtold by over 1. 5s. Britain s Dan Atherton completed the podium with a top mark of Dan s brother Gee Atherton entered the competition in Brazil as the clear favorite, and confirmed those expectations by topping the qualifying session on Saturday. Race day didn t equal lucky day for Gee, however, who ended up last among the 10 riders competing after suffering a flat rear tire halfway through the course.
