LIVE from Luxor as Egypt unveils Avenue of Sphinxes
Mandatory Credit: The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities Live from Egypts southern city of Luxor as the country is set to open the 3, 000yearold Avenue of Sphinxes to the public in a ceremony on Thursday, November 25. The avenue connects Karnak Temple with Luxor Temple and features sphinxes and ramheaded statues lined up on both sides. The Avenue of Sphinxes was founded during the New Kingdom era and was completed during the reign of Nectanebo I, who ruled from 380362 B. C. Buried under sand for centuries, fresh efforts were made to excavate the avenue in 2017 and turn it into an attraction for Egyptians and tourists.
