The film Girl Power: Hindi Style by RT Documentary is about the Pink Gang or in Hindi, the Gulabi Gang, in India, which helps women fight for their rights and protects them from domestic abuse. The movement s mastermind is Sampat Pal, a local hero. She started the Gulabi Gang when she was only 20 years old. She and four of her female friends beat up a man who abused his wife. Since then, the Gulabi Gang has grown to 1, 100, 000 members. Women who suffer domestic abuse come to Sampat Pal for advice and protection. She teaches them about women s rights and also gives classes in selfdefence. The women s rights situation in India has been dismal for decades. This is for the most part because the women have bever had access to education and, as a result, had zero chance of getting a job and becoming independent. Sampat Pal herself remembered how much she wanted to go to school like boys did when she was little. And now Sampat Pal and the Gulabi Gang want to make sure all young women in India
