Lord Mayor of London Sir William Coxen, giving a speech of welcome to officers and crew of HMS Ajax and Exeter (ships that fought at the Battle of the River Plate) at a luncheon in their honour at the Guildhall, London. MS. The Captain of the Ajax thanks Lord Mayor on behalf of his crew and Commodore Admiral Harwood, who is not able to attend. MS. Pan as the company gives toast to Lord Mayor and London Corporation proposed by Winston Churchill (probably still then First Lord of the Admiralty). CU Churchill with cigar. MS. Churchill speaking: He thanks Lord Mayor for invitation and commends bravery of the River Plate heroes. He tells of the part the Navy is playing in ensuring safe delivery of goods to ports. N. B.
