wassies In The Middle East (1942)
Titles read: WASSIES IN THE MIDDLE EAST. Various shots of the South African Women s Auxiliary Army Service known as the Wassies going about their duties in a camp somewhere in the Middle East. The women are woken by a female soldier with a whistle; a small cat jumps out of a window; a girl in a ruched dressing gown opens her window and stretches. Nice shots of them getting dressed in their uniforms then lining up and marching about a parade ground. Commentator explains that these girls meet hospital trains bringing in wounded troops from the desert battles and convey them in their ambulances to hospitals in the Middle East. Several good shots of the women putting on their overalls and doing maintenance work on their ambulances. They stop for a cup of tea and pet a little puppy. The women line up beside their vehicles for inspection by their Unit Commander. The women set off on a drive as part of their drill practice. FILM A VIDEO FROM BRITISH PATHÉ.
