Duration 31 22 Oscar Emmanuel Peterson (Montreal, August 15, 1925 Toronto, December 23, 2007) was a Canadian jazz pianist and composer. His father taught him to play the trumpet and piano at the age of five. After contracting tuberculosis, he focused on the piano when he was seven. He quickly gained the reputation of a technically brilliant and melodically inventive jazz pianist, becoming a regular guest on radio programs. He made his first appearance at Carnegie Hall in 1949.
