Abbey Gardener (1961)
Westminster, London. L, Ss of exterior of Westminster Abbey. M, Ss of a woman in the gardens of the Abbey, putting some plants into a flower bed. Commentator tells us she is Marian Care who is thought to be the only professional woman gardener of this status in the country. Nice L, S of the Abbey from the gardens; an unusual viewpoint. M, Ss of blossom, tulips and a fountain in the gardens; Marian wheels a weedburning machine along the path; it scorches weeds between the paving stones. Commentator notes that it is as easy to operate as pushing a pram another pursuit at which the ladies excel. Marian is seen watering some daffodils with a watering can and trimming the lawn outside the Abbey; intercut with several shots of architectural features of the Abbey. Nice L, S of Big Ben. M, S of the statue of King George V outside Westminster Abbey. Note: there is no print for this issue. There is a small news cutting on file. FILM A VIDEO FROM BRITISH PATHÉ.
