Mistral In the Throes of Losing Love (full album, 2023)
Here is the stunning new album of atmospheric post, blackgaze from Polish band Mistral, which is a stratospheric successor to Somnifer, their debut from 2022 that I had on pretty solid repeat. This album has already shown itself to be of a similar compelling stature since Ive had it on pretty solid repeat for the past couple of weeks. Lots of enveloping ambient build up, satisfying turbulent crescendos and that raw bleakness that thew combo of postrock and black metal level intensity delivers. The twopiece core band are joined by guest musicians adding violin and taglharpa a viking bowed bassharp, which I learned of through this album, which both add the extra depth to the sound. Really great stuff, and I love this minimalist evocative artwork too. Released today in full, available in digital format from Mistral direct, limited edition cassette via Folkvangr Records and EU CD and cassette through Onism Productions Band: Mistral Album: In the Throes of Losing Love Year:
