Tsundoku: the act or habit of piling up newly acquired books. The term dates back to the Japanese Meiji era (18681912) and literally means reading pile. I was very excited to learn that there was a dedicated word describing a phenomenon that always existed deep in my soul, but never devoted much thought to. I seem to really enjoy having books and items that I enjoy owning, but not necessarily finishing or even starting. I am not sure about anyone else, but I never bought a book because I simply wanted to read something. For me, the goal is to be swept away into another world full of imagination and lore to where even the most fictional of concepts make logical sense. Having these books in my cabinet is part of my identity. Looking at these books speaks to my interests, passions, and most importantly, my imagination.
