According to the MoD statement, two jets performed the flight over the neutral waters of the Arctic Ocean, the Barents Sea, Laptev Sea and Kara Sea. Refueling was carried out in the air amid the flight. According to TU160 crew captain Aleksander Zheludkov, such long flights have already become routine for pilots. US and Canadian planes also went in the air after Russian jets entered Canadian Air Defense Identification Zone, though, as North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) reports, Russian planes remained in international airspace and did not enter sovereign territory.
