Sadeh Iranian Song
An original composition by Farya Faraji. Vocals by Kelareh Kabiri and Farya Faraji, artwork by Hamid Rahmanian, lyrics by Ferdowsi (contested). This is a song I wrote in honour of the Iranian festival of Sadeh, a midWinter festival that reaches back to Antiquity, and is rooted in the ancient Iranian religions like Zoroastrianism which focus on the importance of light and fire as contrasts to darkness; Sadeh is thus a festival about endurance against the ongoing winter which will soon come to an end. The lyrics are from Ferdowsi s Shahnameh (although the attribution of this specific passage to Ferdowsi is contested, and it may have been written by another), and they recount the mythological event during which fire was first discovered by humankind. During a royal gathering on a mountain, Hooshang sees a snake approaching, and he throws a rock at it. The rock breaks, and it sparks create fire for the first time. The festivity of Sadeh is thus made to celebrate this discovery. Persian lyrics
