Satie Debussy Gymnopédie No. 3 Charles Gerhardt conducts
The web definition of Gymnopédie includes such words as dance, antiquity, nudity, warfare and ceremony, being a kind of mixture of the games and dances of Ancient Greece. Erik Satie wrote three gently atmospheric piano pieces with the title Gymnopédie and Claude Debussy orchestrated the first and third of them. We hear No. 3 in a performance by the National Philharmonic conducted by Charles Gerhardt. He was a longtime RCA producer who also produced and conducted a great many albums for Reader s Digest. This track comes from a CD on the Menuet label with all due acknowledgements.
