Suction Dredger (1961)
Various shots of an old fashioned dredger at work on the Norfolk Broads. M, S from a moving boat of the new Jetlift dredger; it looks very snazzy in bright yellow. We are told that it draws up the silt on the vacuum cleaner principle, and through a floating pipeline, deposits it on the bank. Two men on the Jetlift look at a plan and discuss. M, S of pipes of the dredger being raised up as one of the men signals for the lifting to stop. Commentator continues: Through the two outside tubes powerful jets of water act as cutters on the river bed. Then agitator jets loosen the silt which is then sucked up the central tube. C, U of the other man in the control box, smoking a pipe. At the signal he lowers the pipes again. High angle M, S as the pipes are submerged in the water. M, S of pipes on marshy, swampy land with water spurting out of them.
