In this 1989 research mission, a modified Falcon 20 plane purposefully flew into a persistent contrail of a Sabreliner jet. Data was collected, and the results compared to the (already in place) Appleman curves used to predict contrail formation. on, Appleman The formation of exhaust condensation trails by jet aircraft.
