Dada Masilo s Giselle
Dada Masilo presents the classical ballet Giselle with a uniquely South African twist. Shot at the National Arts Festival 2017, the play not only retells a classical ballet, but a reimagines ballet itself. In this version of Giselle, she dies of heart break yet still rises and seeks revenge on her lover, whom she eventually kills. The cast displayed a stellar performance, which challenged societal and gender norms as well as conventional ballet.
