The Osteoclast movie by Dr Annica Jacobson Rasmusson, Uppsala, Sweden
Osteoclasts are bone resorbing cells. They fuse together with nearby immature cells during maturation and creates an acidic environment that together with the secretion of proteases the bone is degraded. This video shows a simplified version of the fusion process with cells grown on plastic dish. This is a timelap movie showing macrophage cell line Raw 264. 7 differentiated by addition of RANKL during the last 24 h of differentiation. Hope you enjoy it All the best Annica Jacobson Rasmusson, Dept of Medical Sciences, Uppsala University, Sweden
