The song was originally done by the rock band Survivor formed in 1978 by Jim Peterik and Frankie Sullivan. Their breakthrough came when actor Sylvester Stallone asked them to provide the theme song for his movie Rocky III. Stallone had heard some of their other music and was a BIG fan. The song was chosen for the movie and which was released 3 weeks before the song was released as a single.
