Jolly Miller of Dee

The last miller at Upminster Windmill (1934) was Alfred Abraham, a very affable man. His daughter, Emily, once captioned a picture of her father as, The Jolly Miller. Prompted by Emily s remark, a friend of the windmill s supporters, Richard Spencer, an accomplished pianist, organist, and composer, was asked to compose an arrangement of this tradition folk melody that the windmill preservation society could use in presentations.
