Volcano News Year in Review; Volcanic Eruptions of 2021
In 2021, more than 60 distinct volcanoes produced volcanic eruptions. These included Kilauea in Hawaii, Pavlof in Alaska, Etna in Italy, and Mount Pinatubo in the Philippines. Each month was dominated by a different volcano, and this year was truly a year to remember. The largest eruption originated from La Soufriere, as it produced a VEI 4 energetic eruption. The largest surprise of the year was Geldingadalir in Iceland, as a gentle eruption occurred from a volcano which has not erupted in 700 years. In Spain, the La Palma volcano produced an 86 day long eruption which was completely livestreamed on YouTube. This video will discuss the year based on several major volcano related news stories.
