The carnix is an Iron Age Celtic wind instrument used between 300 BC and 200 AD. It was a kind of bronze pipe, vertically directed, with a bell in the form of an animal s head, for example a boar. It was used during battles, probably to give a signal to attack soldiers and intimidate the enemy.
