This song was thrust back into popularity by the 2017 Netflix series Money Heist (La Casa Del papel), leading to a worldwide rediscovery of the songbooks of the partisans of the 1930 s and 40 s. Bella Ciao is a partisan song widely used by antifascist resistance in Italy in 194345, and was adapted from an old protest Folk Song that is said to have originaed in the late 19th century. The exact origins and original author of the text are unclear.
