The Hat Makers An Italian Study (1933)
In the little village of Scieci, near Florence, the hatmakers work outside their Lovely shot of a group of women plaiting straw for hats. Some stitch the plaits together. Some stand and some sit, one very young girl works in the foreground. Dissolve into a M, S of the women working. Their material is a thick grass C, U of a woman s hands as she rapidly plaits the straw. Even closer shot of the plaiting process. The hat is commenced from the centre of the C, U of the hat being started. Larger and larger it C, U of the hat taking shape. The hat is placed over a wooden block and moulded. fitted at each step on a The hat is put onto the block again. The brim is sewn around the edge and another block is used to shape the brim.
