Ekaterina Muromtseva: What it feels to be a part of history
Russian Art Focus met with young artist Ekaterina Muromtseva who in her recent solo exhibition Time Difference at XL Gallery in Moscow reflects on what it feels like to be part of history and what the genre of historical painting is today. Ekaterina Muromtseva (b. 1990) is a Moscowbased artist who works with various media: installations, video and graphic art. She is interested in narratives where documents and artistic imagination layer on top of each other. Working with the subject of memory, she looks for new ways to talk about history. Through her artistic practice she tries to find new forms of existence within the hierarchical social and cultural systems of society, refer to personal and collective memory and feature historical obscurities.
