Red Hot Chili Peppers Aeroplane ( Bass Cover)
Artist: Red Hot Chili Peppers Album: One Hot Minute Song: Aeroplane There are so many awesome things about the bass line in this song. The intro is a masterclass in how to write a lead bass intro to a song. The verses utilize a ton of sliding and bending, which I always thought was unique. Then, there are the slap verses. I think this song has Flea s coolest slap bass line. It s the perfect combination of percussive and melodic and he s improvising the whole time in the recording. You can tell because he doesn t repeat the same phrasing very often and, when he does, it s clearly not at any planned time. He lays back in the bridge, rips a bass solo, and then goes into a jazzlike walking bass line in the outro, complete with passing tones. I learned this song a while back when I was playing in a cover band and had only been playing about 3 years. Learning it taught me so much and had a huge influence on my playing moving forward.
