At the end of the first lap during the Race, 5 of VLN Nurburgring Endurance Championship 2017, Rowe Racing BMW M6 GT3, 99 took the lead from Mercedes which had been leading since the start of the race. The driver of the BMW, 99 Philipp Eng commited an overtaking maneuver at Dottinger Hoehe section of the NurburgringNordschleife race track using slipstream. What is slipstream Here is the most common definition: The partial vacuum created in the wake of a moving vehicle, often used by other vehicles in a race to assist in overtaking. So as seen in the video, BMW, 99 is trying to stay exactly behind the leading Mercedes in order to receive less drag from the oncoming air flow. The Mercedes takes all the air flow by its front part and creates behind itself some sort of a partial vacuum. The BMW, 99 catches the Mercedes and makes the move for the lead.
